Up All Night

Published:  July 24, 2009

For those of you not following it, California legislators have been working since yesterday -- literally up all night -- to try to pass a budget. The Senate has acted, but Assembly Republicans are holding it up.

I've been following this budget -- and contributing to the commentary -- via twitter. (my twitter handle is joemmathews -- the extra "m" is for misery).

You also should check out #cabudget, @Kyamamura from the Sac Bee, @kqed_capnotes from KQED's John Myers, and @capitolweekly.

Passing budgets in the twitter era is a weirdly participatory thing. The public responds -- and the experts offer commentary in real time. Whether this produces better budgets is a different matter all together.
